Dr. Susan Walter - Land Historian

Susan has been a practising land and rural community historian for nearly 20 years. She is a published author and conference presenter. She holds a PhD from Federation University (2019) with her thesis, Malmsbury Bluestone and Quarries: Finding Holes in History and Heritage, and a BAgSc from La Trobe (1986). Dr Walters is president of a regional historical society, a member of the Professional Historians Association (Vic/Tas). And was the Treasurer and Chair of the collective which planned, established and launched the Federation University Australia history journal Before/Now (2017-2019). She has won several history awards.

Her most recent research and writing foray with Connect-History has been to investigate the colonial and land history through to 1940 of the historic land at Harpsdale in Yuroke, Victoria for The Simmie Family: Simmie & Co and Harpsdale, Andrew Kilsby, IndiePrint, 2022.
